FAQ C.C.C.P.

Like many other associations, Arago has its own IT facilities. The administration of these facilities are the responsibility of the Central Committee for Computers as well as Printers, also known as the C.C.C.P. This page answers some frequently asked questions regarding Arago’s IT.

I have an issue – what now?
In case you have an issue with something, or something does not work, you can contact the C.C.C.P. The easiest way is to file a ticket in our bugtracker; someone will have a look at the problem during the next work evening. You can file a ticket here.

What is an Arago-account?
Every active member of Arago has their own Arago-account. With this account, you can log onto the computers in the Arago room, access the fileserver, and your own @arago.utwente.nl email-address. When you become a member of a committee for the first time, you will receive an email with the information relevant to your Arago-account.

I forgot the password of my Arago-account, what now?
You can change the password of your Arago-account yourself in My Arago. You can also log in with your UT-account. If you don’t have a UT-account, or if your UT-account is not known to Arago, then please contact the secretary, they’ll be able to help you out.

How do I access the fileserver from outside the Arago room?
The fileserver is also accesible outside the Arago room. On the UT campus, this is easily achieved by navigating to ‘\\files.arago.utwente.nl’ in the Windows File Explorer. Do you use Linux or MacOS? Then navigate to ‘smb://files.arago.utwente.nl’ in your file explorer. You will be shown a login prompt. Prepend ‘SVARAGO\’ to the username of your Arago-account, e.g. ‘SVARAGO\john.doe’, and enter your corresponding password below. You can then navigate Arago’s various available shares.

In case you are not on the UT campus, the above will also work, but you must first configure the UT’s VPN. The UT provides a guide on their website. You can also access the shares Temp, Commissie (Committee), Archief (Archive) and Homedir from a web interface, should you find this more convenient. This interface can be found at https://drive.arago.utwente.nl/.

How can I access my Arago mail?
The easies way to access your Arago mail is through the webmail, where you can log in with your Arago credentials. It is also possible to forward your Arago mail to your own email address. You can configure this in Mijn Arago (My Arago), in the ‘Mailforward’ field.

To configure your Arago mail in Outlook, Thunderbird, or another mail client, you’ll need the following data:

  • IMAP server: mail.arago.utwente.nl, port 143 and STARTTLS-security
  • SMTP server: mail.arago.utwente.nl, port 587 and STARTTLS-security
  • Username & password: your Arago username and password

How can I use my Arago email-address in Gmail?
First of all, configure your Gmail account as a mailforward in Mijn Arago, which forwards all of your Arago mail to your Gmail account. Then you must add your Arago email-address to Gmail, in order to send mail from your Arago email-address. This can be achieved like so:

  • Under the cog wheel, go to ‘Settings’, then navigate to the tab ‘Accounts and Import’.
  • Click ‘Add another email address’.
  • In the next step, fill in ‘mail.arago.utwente.nl’ as the SMTP-server, choose port 587, and fill in your Arago username and password.
  • In the next step, Google will send you a verification code. This message contains a link that you must click to activate the new address.

You can now send emails from Gmail using your Arago email address!

How can I print?
The Arago room features a black-and-white laserprinter, which you may use for both committee-related and personal use. A personal print costs 3 cents, and is automatically deducted from your internal balance.

This printer is configured as the default on the computers in the Arago room, where it is named “Aragoprintmachine”. After selecting the purpose of your print job on-screen, it will automatically roll out of the printer. You can also use the printer from your own device. You can do this by going to Mijn Arago, although this method restricts you to printing PDF files.

My committee would like something on the website – can you help us?
