In 1999 Alexander Brinkman obtained his Master’s degree in Applied Physics at the University of Twente. He continued at the University of Twente, where he started his PhD in 1999 and became Assistant Professor in 2003. Since February 2011 he is a Professor at Quantum Transport in Matter (QTM). However, being a good professor is not enough to qualify for the mevrouw De Winterprijs. Alexander has been committed to popularising quantum mechanics for a wider audience for quite some time. In 2012 he was a guest at de Wereld Leert Door where gave a lecture on quantum teleportation. He explained this complex phenomenon with the use of two envelopes and blue and yellow papers. He even gave several lectures at the Zwarte Cross Festival, in 2014 about superconductivity (‘Super cool, lets you levitate’) and in 2015 about quantum mechanics (‘What makes quantum mechanics so interesting’). Stimulating the interest in physics in our society is one of the reasons S.V Arago exists. Since Alexander Brinkman has had a great influence in popularising physics, he received the mevrouw De Winterprijs in 2015.
